Two arrested on Woburn Avenue with drugs valued at about R500 000

Two people were arrested after they were found in possession of drugs which are believed to be worth over R500 000.

The arrest took place on the evening of October 13, at a property on Woburn Avenue.

Chief Sup Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, said the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members on crime prevention patrols in Benoni made the arrest.

“The officers on patrol witnessed two men exchange stuff in a suspicious manner and decided to investigate,” said Kgasago.

“The officers approached one of the pair seen involved in the suspicious transaction and upon searching him, found a few Ziploc bags with drugs inside.

“The suspect claimed that he was not a dealer and willingly indicated to the officers to search his flat to prove his claims.”

Kgasago said a search of the suspect’s flat revealed a number of Ziploc’s stashed in several places within the flat as well as a “huge quantity of Cat still in block form”.

The pair who were arrested, a 26-year-old male and a 27-year-old female, were detained at the Benoni Police Station on charges of possession and dealing in an illicit substance.

They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
