Nine injured as storm rips through Delmas, Bapsfontein

Photos showing the extent of damage to homes in Benoni have been shared on Twitter.

Nine people were injured in the Delmas and Bapsfontein areas this evening as a storm damaged a nearby business and home.

ER24 paramedics first responded to a business premises off the R50 in Delmas where a building had been damaged.
“Upon arrival, paramedics found that a small building had sustained serious damage, injuring the six people inside,” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all six had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

The patients were treated for their injuries and transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

Paramedics then responded to a residence in the Bapsfontein area after the building collapsed, apparently due to the storm.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found that a man and his two children had sustained minor to serious injuries,” Meiring added.
“The three patients were treated and provided with pain-relief medication before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”

Local authorities were on both scenes to investigate.
