Man arrested for illegal firearms, ammunition

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Crime Intelligence and Benoni SAPS Flying Squad arrested a man believed to be in his late 40’s for being in possession of three unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested on October 3 in Daveyton.

According to Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe police were conducting operation cease-fire in the area when they received information about a person with firearms.

“The police members proceeded to the address and while searching the premises they discovered three firearms with 16 live rounds of ammunition.

Police seized one Beretta pistol with a loaded magazine and five live rounds of ammunition, a 45 automatic pistol with one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition and a Norinco pistol with a magazine and eight live rounds of ammunition.

The man is charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and live rounds of ammunition.

He is expected to soon appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court.
