Miss Benoni proves resourceful to help SPCA

Miss Benoni Victoria Welthagen showed that she can organise an impressive fund-raiser to help animal welfare organisation Benoni SPCA.

Welthagen collaborated with the Barnyard Theatre at Emperors Palace.

She explained that she bought every seat in the theatre for the stage production Blame It On the Boogie at a discounted price and then resold the tickets, donating the proceeds to Benoni SPCA.

“I am a big animal lover and we have helped so many other charities, I would like to help animals now,” she said, explaining that animals cannot speak for themselves and it is important for people to speak for them.

She also held a raffle where audience members stood a chance to win one of three sponsored prizes.

The beauty queen said she made so many promises when she won her title that she has made a goal box.

“I am going to complete every single goal on my list before I hand over my title,” she said.

According to her, she is not far from completing her goals as Miss Benoni, because she perceives her title as more than just status.

She explained that she refuses to have a title and not do anything with it.

“With this title you have a platform to make a difference,” she said.

She said she cannot take all the credit, as her mother and father, Esmeralda and Shaun Welthagen, helped with almost everything and she had a team who helped organise the event.
