UPDATE: Three appear in court for Rhythm City Dumi Masilela’s murder

The three accused who were arrested in connection with the death of Rhythm City actor Dumisani Masilela (29) were each charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted hijacking.

It is alleged that on August 2, the men hijacked a man of his Jeep Wrangler in Daveyton.

The vehicle was the one used when the accused allegedly shot Masilela in an attempted hijacking on the same day.

The Rhythm City actor, who was already in his vehicle when he was shot, then drove to Tembisa Hospital where he later died.

On September 21 the three men, Bongani Masombuka (34), Sfundo Nkosi (29) and Khumbudzo Mukhuba (27) appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court for a bail application.

Nkosi’s bail application was postponed and he is due to reappear in court on October 6.

Mukhuba’s attorney was not present in court on September 21 so his bail application will be decided at a later stage.

Masombuka’s bail application was revoked due to a pending court matter.

All three suspects will appear in an identity parade due to take place on September 27.

Previously, Nkosi and Masombuka appeared in the court for their link to the hijacked vehicle; however, on Thursday, prosecutor Lumka Phoswa said that based on new evidence, they are now being charged for murder.

Mukhuba, who appeared previously in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for being in possession of the unlicensed firearm, appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on September 21 where he too was charged with murder.
