Man’s journey to Benoni from the West Coast takes unexpected turn: His mission is now to help Noorderlig bully victim’s family

A man from the West Coast, JC le Roux (49), phoned the City Times to ask how he can help Louis de Jonge’s family, the 13-year-old boy who died from injuries he allegedly sustained from bullying.

Le Roux said he grew up in Benoni and lived in the town for most of his life.

When he spoke to the City Times this afternoon he was driving to Benoni from the West Coast to assist the family.

“I woke up this morning (September 20) and I told my wife that I wanted to go to Benoni. I don’t know why, but something bothered me when I woke up,” he said.

“Most of my family members are buried in Benoni and I just wanted to be with my people.”

He said that he doubted his decision to drive over a thousand kilometres, but when he read the article, he knew the purpose of his journey.

An emotional Le Roux then said he feels as if he is being sent to help Louis’s family.

Louis de Jonge has died. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Jade Landman, founder of Families in Need East Rand, is raising funds for Louis’s family.

Landman said the funeral costs have been covered, but the family is in dire need of funds to survive.

She said that Families in Need East Rand is currently on hold due to the organisation waiting for its official NPO registration number.

Because of this a bank account was opened called Anti Bullying for Louis in Bianchina’s name.

She explained that Elmarie Bianchina, Louis’s mother, is the sole breadwinner due to her husband having advanced pancreatic cancer.

“If you saw her husband you would cry,” said Landman, adding that the community must now help the family.

If you would like to assist the family, contact Landman on 076 534 4180.
