Man sentenced after murdering his girlfriend

On August 30, Collen Moropa was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court for the murder of his girlfriend and being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, Capt Mesh Makole, Moropa killed his girlfriend after an argument arose between them.

“On New Year’s Day 2016, during the early hours of the morning, Collen and his girlfriend, together with four of their friends, were driving from a tavern in Daveyton,” Makole said.

“Collen pulled his firearm out and shot his girlfriend in the neck.”

The victim was rushed to a clinic in Daveyton, then was referred to several hospitals until she was declared dead at Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus on March 8.

“On March 23, upon successful investigation by Daveyton SAPS and Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Tracing Team, the suspect was arrested and the firearm used in the murder of his girlfriend was recovered from him,” Makole said.
