Numerous items of equipment used in illegal mining were seized by the EMPD Equestrian Unit members.
All suspects were found to be undocumented foreign nationals aged between 16 and 27.
Among the seized equipment were gas cylinders, stands, sifters and triangular stands.
The four suspects were detained at Benoni Police Station and charged with mining illegally in the area’s disused mine. They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday (September 1).
