Family of teen murdered in Barcelona wants justice

The Ngwane family is seeking justice after their daughter was murdered in Barcelona.

Thandi Ngwane was found dead on July 23 near a church in the area.

Adolina Ngwane, Thandi’s sister said police are dragging their feet with the investigation.

“Whenever we go to the police station to find out how the investigation is going, we don’t get answers,” said Adolina.

“When we go to the police station to see the investigating officer, he always tells us that he’s busy.”

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson, Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe admitted that the family does come to the station regularly, however, he said police are investigating the case.

“We urge the family to give us a chance to investigate the case and we encourage them not to rely on hearsay,” said Maqabe.

Maqabe added that the girl, who was last seen with Thandi, was taken in for questioning and three men were also taken in for questioning but were later released.

The 18-year-old was visiting her grandmother in Etwatwa when she received a call from a friend, inviting her to a night out on July 22.

The following day, her half naked body was found dumped.

She had head wounds.

Maqabe said her body was found by a community member at about 5am, next to a church in Barcelona.

Ngwane’s family said community members know who did this to their child and it pains them that no one has been arrested.

A case of murder is being investigated.

Maqabe added they are still waiting for the post mortem results.

Police urge anyone with information to come forward and for community members not to interfere with the investigation as they are demanding answers from police.
