Is this a new hijacking method?

Ina van Deventer writes:

It seems as though the main concerns in Benoni over the past months have been the Bunny Park and wheelie bins.

I would like to add to the wheelie bin saga.

In 2017 I had to get out of the car to close the gate to our home (the gate motor was broken) and was hijacked at gunpoint.

As you can imagine, this was a traumatic experience and not something to be taken lightly.

Over the past weeks, I have on several occasions found the wheelie bin parked in the middle of my driveway after it has been emptied.

This means that I had to park the car in the street, get out of the car and move the bin before I could get to the driveway.

This poses a real threat of hijacking or worse, especially when coming home after dark.

I have raised my concerns with the Benoni Community Forum WhatsApp group and received more than 70 responses, which means there are many more Benoni citizens who are facing the same situation.

Some of the responses were from single women and elderly people who often come home after dark and have no choice but to put themselves in a vulnerable position when moving the bins.

We all realise that the workers now have to not only pick up the bags and throw it into the truck but have to return the bins afterwards.

This means they have more to do in the same time as before and this may be the reason for them simply pushing it into the middle of the driveways.

On the other hand, this is a service we pay for. I believe we have the right to expect the necessary consideration from the people who deliver the service.

If the problem cannot be solved on this platform I would appreciate it if I could be put in touch with someone who will be able to help.
