Vagrant shares the little he has with birds

Thato Hutang is uncertain of where his next meal will come from, but he ensures the birds he feeds do not have the same concerns.

“I buy mealies for them when I have money or I share what I have with them,” said Hutang, who sits on the corner of Great North Road and Fifth Avenue.

“I feed them first because I know somehow God will bless me.

“They cannot ask for food, but I can, so I feed them.”

Hutang has been a vagrant for three years, but lived in Daveyton prior to that.

“My mother died and I used to live with my grandmother,” he said.

“When I have enough money, I visit her, otherwise I sleep on the street.”

According to Hutang, he was involved in a car accident in 2004.

“I lived in Daveyton and I walked to the shop to buy bread for my mother,” he said.

“A car knocked me and hurt my arm and legs.

“Doctors said I will not be able to walk properly.”

According to Hutang, he has been feeding birds for three months.

“I want to help people in the same way in the future,” he said.

“I want to give food and shelter to those in need.”
