Boy (11) ejected from vehicle on Vlei Road

An 11-year-old boy was critically hurt when he was ejected from a vehicle during a collision in Rynfield last night (August 10).

The accident happened on the corner of Vlei Road and Trumpet Street, at about 6.45pm.

Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson, said paramedics found the child on a sidewalk.

“Upon further assessment, they found that he had sustained severe head and chest injuries,” said Vermaak.

“The ER24 OnePlan Medical Helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to hospital.”

Three other occupants of the same vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“They were assessed and treated on scene before they were transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital,” Vermaak added.

“The driver of the second vehicle was transported privately to a nearby hospital prior to paramedics’ arrival on scene.”

The circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known.
