Bridge collapses over N3 at Geldenhuys interchange
A pedestrian bridge collapsed over the N3 in the early hours of this morning (August 9), according to the City of Ekurhuleni's Facebook page.
The incident happened at the Geldenhuys interchange, in Germiston.
Three trucks and a sedan, along with at least five people, were involved in the accident.
“A total of five patients were accounted for from all vehicles,” the municipality said.
“Three patients from one truck were still trapped inside the cab and two others from other vehicles escaped with minor injuries.”
“Rescue teams had to use Jaws of Life to rescue those trapped inside the cab of one truck.”
Those three people included a seven-year0old girl.
The affected section of highway was still closed this morning.
The cause of the accident will be investigated.
