EFF ‘action plan’ for Benoni suburb not going ahead- community leaders

There should be no concern about plans to “shut down or close all major exits or entrance of main roads in Crystal Park”, according to local community leaders.

A two-page document was circulated on social media today (August 7) warning of a planned protest, which was due to take place in Ward 24, to “enforce awareness of the vote of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma”, the letter reads.

The letter was signed off by Sipho Nhlabathi, who is apparently from the EFF.

When the City Times contacted Nhlabathi at about 7.40pm, he said he could not immediately comment.

Ward 24 councillor Kabelo Mahonko said the document was apparently not intended to be released by the public, and that it had not been officially released by the EFF.

She said EFF members said a gathering won’t take place in her ward, and that it would apparently be moved to Germiston.

Reza Patel, the executive chairperson for the Community Policing Forum’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, confirmed it would not take place in Benoni.

Maj-Gen Poobalan Subbiah, the police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster commander, confirmed the same.

He said there would be “maximum deployment in the cluster” to deal with any arising police matters.
