Sick chickens confiscated in Putfontein

The SPCA confiscated 80 chickens from three hawkers in Putfontein on July 26.

The confiscations took place on Putfontein Road.

Vicky Finnemore, the manager of the Benoni SPCA, said they received a complaint from the public.

After the owners of the birds failed to adhere to warnings from the SPCA, they society acted and confiscated the animals.

Finnemore said the birds did not have shelter, had injuries to their legs and wings and had respiratory problems.

By Thursday morning, 52 of the fowls had been euthanised.
