Man arrested with explosives, two get away
A man was arrested for the possession of explosives and illegal mining in the Alliance area, near Modderbee Prison today (July 19).
Const Zama Madonda, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said police received a tip-off from the local community about three suspicious-looking men in the area at about 12.30pm.
“Police quickly proceeded to the area, and upon arrival, they saw the three males still roaming the area,” said Madonda.
Two of the three ran away when Sgt Zanele Billa and WO Eddie Sibanyoni approached them, but the officers managed to arrest one of the men.
He was found in possession of explosives, a hammer and chisel, batteries and a torch.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
