Vegetable garden training offered
Non-profit organisation Unite for Change, with the help of volunteers, planted a vegetable garden on July 8 on a plot in the Benoni North Agricultural Holdings.
The vegetables are cultivated by the organisation and are intended for underprivileged communities.
Charlene Chamberlain, from Unite for Change, said produce from the vegetable garden will feed disadvantaged people – young and old – in Benoni and Soweto.
“We want to plant as many veggie gardens as possible and teach communities how to produce for themselves. We are also looking for people who have feeding schemes in their community, so we can help them plant their own gardens,” said Chamberlain.
The organisation received support from a business which supplied them with planting space and labour to prepare and maintain the gardens.
