Benoni CPF to begin awareness drive

The Benoni Community Policing Forum (CPF) will stand at several intersections on Saturday (July 15) to educate the public about supporting vagrants.

Between 10am and 2pm, the Benoni CPF will be visible at many intersections, including:

• Great North Road and Fifth Avenue

• Great North Road and Mercury Street

• Bunyan Street and Mowbray Avenue

• O’Reilly Merry Street and 14th Avenue

• The four-way stop at Oakfields Shopping Centre

“The aim of this drive is to educate the community about the disadvantages of supporting vagrants financially,” said Benoni CPF public relations officer, Marinda Beukes.

“It is also to create awareness of the fact that the city has many options available to seek help and support.”

The convoy will be led by the Benoni SAPS.

The drive will also kick-start the CPF ‘Adopt A Patroller’ initiative.

“This initiative allows the community to fund a specific patroller or CPF sector,” Beukes added.

These funds will help the CPF to pay for any expenses the sector requires to function.
