Learn how to cope with death

GriefShare, which has been running for over 12 years, invites community members to a free orientation session of the series.

The series guides people on how to journey through grief within a caring and safe environment, while addressing how to deal with grief and explaining what is normal.

A DVD of internationally respected leaders in grief recovery and real-life experiences of people who have suffered the loss of a loved one, is presented to attendees.

“Nothing prepares people for the impact that the death of someone close has on their lives,” said Denise Heatlie, GriefShare leader.

“It is so final and deeply emotional.

“People fresh in grief are numb, they operate in survival mode, have difficulty facing their tomorrows and do not feel optimistic about the future.”

Northmead resident Louise Wolmarans, who has been on the course, said: “It was very beneficial because I got a lot out of it.”

Wolmarans said through the GriefShare meetings she was able to find healing and cope with her losses.

“You learn not to blame yourself for certain situations and you stop asking yourself questions like, ‘Did I do enough?’, ‘Was it because of me?’, ‘Could I have done more? ‘ ’’ she said.
