Two children die in Atlas Road accident

An eight-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl were killed and three others were injured after two vehicles collided on the corner of Atlas and Bass roads, in Kempton Park last night (July 8).

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene at 11.30pm, another medical service assessed the two children, but despite their best efforts the children were declared dead on scene,” said ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen.

She said the vehicle in which the five people were was lying on its side.

“A woman was found a few metres away from the vehicle,” said van Huyssteen.

“She was assessed and was found to be in a serious condition.”

A man was walking around on scene and sustained minor injuries.

A baby of about six months of age was found in her car seat in the bushes, the spokesperson said.

“She sustained moderate injuries.”

ER24 transported three patients to the Sunshine Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The exact details surrounding the cause of the accident are unknown at this stage.
