Their secret: luck and honesty

Margaret (81) and Bryce (83) Pollock recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

The Western Extension couple married on June 11, 1955, at St Dunstan’s Anglican Church, in Benoni.

They met in 1954 at a local hospital, when Bryce was visiting a friend who had been in a motorbike accident and Margaret was in hospital recovering after she ran into a glass window.

Bryce said he immediately fell in love with Margaret’s beauty and discovered that they both shared the same love for long motorbikes rides.

Margaret said Bryce was a charmer and he would take her to the Saturday night jive which was held at the Benoni Town Hall.

“We used to jitterbug and dance the night away,” she said.

Margaret added that they liked keeping active through sport and being adventurous.

Bryce was an electrician-turned inventor.

He built an electric car which is at the James Hall Transport Museum in Johannesburg.

Margaret was a bookkeeper.

When asked for their recipe for a long, healthy marriage, Margaret said: “Luck and being honest with each other.”

Bryce said couples should listen to each other.

The couple enjoys visiting family, friends and going on a weekend getaway at Hartbeespoort Dam. They were blessed with two sons, Rory and Gary Pollock.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with friends and family.
