Paramedics battle for three hours to remove crash victim from vehicle

One man died and another was seriously injured in two separate accidents at the weekend.

A man was seriously injured on the R21, near the Benoni off-ramp, early Saturday morning.

Paramedics said it took almost three hours to free the person from the wreckage.

“At approximately 3am, paramedics from ER24, the fire department and Sanral emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the vehicle almost completely wedged underneath the rear of the truck,” said ER24’s Werner Vermaak.

“Paramedics could barely gain access to him, but managed to treat him until he could be removed from the wreckage.”

The man was rushed to the Tembisa Hospital.

In the second incident, a motorcyclist died on the N12 east, near the Tom Jones Street off-ramp, on Sunday.

“Paramedics initiated CPR on the rider, but were unable to revive him. He was later declared dead on the scene.”

said Vermaak.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet known.
