Police come under fire at scene of robbery

Two people were arrested after a shoot-out with police in Daveyton on June 27.

The incident happened during a business robbery at a pharmacy on Eislen Street, at about 6.30pm.

“It is alleged that four robbers came to the pharmacy,” said the police’s Lieut-Col Mack Mngomezulu.

“Two of them drew firearms and ordered the customers to lie down.

“Two more suspects came in and started to search customers.”

Mngomezulu said a person in the pharmacy was hit over the head with the butt of a firearm.

When police responded to the robbery, a shoot-out ensued.

Mngomezulu said two suspects and a bystander were injured in the shooting.

One of the suspects was found in possession of a stolen wallet, cellphone and a bag containing cash.

A firearm was recovered inside the pharmacy.

Police are still searching for the other assailants.

Cases of business robbery and attempted murder have been opened.
