Teen (18) killed for cellphone in Actonville

An Actonville teenager, Kirusha Padachy (18), died on May 26 after being stabbed twice in the chest.

According to Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe, the incident took place near the council-owned flats Karachi Court.

Kirusha’s father, Morgan, claims his daughter was out with friends when they were approached by suspects who stabbed her and stole her cellphone, at about 10pm.

“After numerous calls to the ambulance and police with no response, a couple from the community rushed her to Tambo Memorial Hospital,” he said.

“She was declared dead on arrival.

“The police arrived at the hospital at midnight to take statements and to open a case,” he said.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Capt Pheello Mothapo confirmed that a case of murder was opened at the Boksburg Police Station and will be transferred to Actonville Police Station.

Kirusha was a learner at Liverpool Secondary School and several messages were posted on their Facebook page after the incident.

“It is with a very heavy and broken heart that Liverpool Secondary School has to say goodbye to one of its learners, Kirusha Padachy,” a post stated.

“You were an absolute pleasure to be around, your beautiful smile, gorgeous dimples and magical green eyes made you captivating, and we will always remember you in our hearts and thoughts.”

Morgan said “Kusha” was a respectful and well-mannered child.

“She always had a smile on her face, she was kind-hearted, sociable and her biggest passion was soccer.

“She loved her friends and was always supportive towards them.

“She will be dearly missed by her mom, dad, brothers, sister, family and friends.”

A memorial service will be held in Actonville on June 2 and the funeral will take place on June 3 at the Actonville Community Centre.
