Volunteers give 100%

Many hands make light work.

That was the case for volunteers from the Benoni Van Rhyn Lions Club, Siyasiza and The 100% Foundation, who recently installed playground equipment at the Grade R section at Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School.

The volunteers spent May 20 painting hopscotch and various other gaming areas on the ground, and erecting play and leisure equipment.

“The idea came when we found out that 170 Grade Rs had no playground to play in,” said Zina Rotherham, of The 100% Foundation.

Rotherham said the Lions came on board after hearing about the project and adopted the school as a community project.

“The school will be our legacy project,” said Benoni Van Rhyn Lions Club president Janis van der Heiden.

About three wooden jungle gyms, eight benches and tables were installed on the playground.
