A shootout between police and at least four men happened on the N12 highway, between the Kingsway and Putfontein off-ramps, when travelling west.

Liam Hardy, ER24 spokesperson, said the four suspects were dead when paramedics arrived.
One man was found in a car (believed to be that of the suspected criminals), while another was found outside the car. Two male accomplices were discovered in a veld, about 100m from the vehicle.
Hardy said one police officer sustained moderate injuries, while another had minor injuries sustained from shrapnel.
Only one lane is open to traffic at the scene of the shooting.
