Gutsy mom secures arrest of two criminals in Farrarmere

“Okay babe, he knows I’m on his tail; he’s put his foot down.”

These were the words of Putfontein resident Trish Vensky, the mother of two whose information led to the arrest of two men in Farrarmere on May 15.

Captain Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said crime prevention members, Capt Imber Groesbeek, Sergeant Alex Phohlo and Constable Kulani Mahoi, received a lookout for a suspicious car from the Benoni Community Policing Forum (CPF).

Police, with the help of the CPF and No Jack Vehicle Tracking, followed up on the information and arrested two men in Bayley Street.

This is all thanks to Trish, a member of the Putfontein CPF, having seen a video of a theft out of a motor vehicle outside Farrarmere Primary School, which took place on May 12.

While she was waiting for her eldest child to finish school, at Farrarmere Primary, on May 15, she noticed a grey Toyota drive past, matching the description of the vehicle used in the theft, three days earlier.

“The car drove past, I noticed an occupant in the back seat and I recognised the licence plate,” said Trish, who was in the car with her five-year-old son.

She immediately notified her husband, Lyle, who notified the Benoni CPF by radio.

While she was on the phone with her husband, Trish drove off to search for the vehicle.

She spotted it in Village Road, followed it to Farrarmere Primary and then back to Village Road, where she then told her husband that the suspects were aware of her following them.

Trish was on their tail until she reached Oak Street West, where CPF, police and a security company continued the pursuit.

After “standing down” from the “exciting” episode, she collected her eldest son at Farrarmere Primary School.

It has since emerged that the vehicle was stolen in Muldersdrift in July, last year.

The suspects, aged 38 and 54, were arrested and charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of house break-in implements.
