Kon Tiki goes ahead despite cold weather

About 20 rafts set out on Homestead Dam during Kon Tiki at the weekend, despite the cold weather.

The annual Scouts event was held at Arrowe Park, on May 13.

Hundreds of Scouts from Gauteng and Mpumalanga gathered at the campsite on the shores of Homestead Dam, in Lakefield.

The different Scout crews built rafts which set sail on Homestead Dam on Saturday.

The idea is for the crews to stay on the water for 24 hours.

Due to the cold rainy weather, crews were given a choice of going out or staying ashore.

Close to 20 decided to go ahead, many of which completed the 24-hour challenge.

The Cubs’ Beaver Challenge, which is always held on shore in conjunction with Kon Tiki, was cancelled due to the wet weather.
