Pit bulls confiscated in Wattville

Three pit bull terriers, which are believed to have been used in organised dog fighting, were confiscated by the Benoni SPCA in Wattville, recently.

The dogs were removed from the property on Friday, May 12.

Benoni SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore said the society’s trainee inspectors, Shiven Bodasing and Chantal Keith, went to the property on Friday morning, after the society was informed of the animals by the community.

The inspectors returned that afternoon, with SAPS support, as it was suspected two of the dogs were used in dog fighting rings.

“We removed the dogs due to the conditions they were living in, as well as the alleged dog fighting,” Finnemore said.

“They have a lot of wounds and scars. We will take them to a veterinarian this afternoon, to determine whether or not the wounds were caused by organised dog fighting.”

Finnemore said the two male adult dogs were scarred, while the third, a puppy of four months, was not.

The SPCA will likely press charges after receiving the vet’s report.
