Rynfield man asking for money concerns resident

A Rynfield resident, who would like to remain anonymous, has raised her concerns about a man who is allegedly going around the area requesting money for cleaning parks and pavements.

The resident said the man is neatly dressed, polite and in possession of a form with details of a particular company.

“He requests that we give him money as the company is rendering a service to the community by keeping parks and pavements clean,” said the resident.

She added that on the form residents have to write their names and the amount given and sign the sheet.

“The form is stamped by the court and when I asked him why, he said it is to show he can do this.”

The Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, said residents must always be vigilant.

“Don’t let strangers into your house, rather talk to them at the gate,” said Sekele.

“As for domestic workers, your employer must always inform you about people who will be coming to house.”

Sekele added that anyone claiming to be from any company must show you their proof of identification.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality was contacted but no response was received by the time of publishing.
