Lake Club suffers at vandals’ hands

The Lake Club Benoni will need weeks to recover fully from recent vandalism on the grounds.

Over April 6, 7, 26 and 27, irrigation control boxes and the greens at several holes were damaged.

According to the club’s management, the damage to the irrigation control boxes may run into thousands of rand, while repairing the greens will take around four weeks to regrow.

“Without irrigation control it is difficult to water the course and damaged greens make the playing experience less pleasurable,” management said.

According to the club’s management, they have made plans to increase the level of security at the facility.

They suspect the culprits may have jumped over the fence at any of a number of points, saying the perimeter fence is difficult to police.

The club said three individuals were apprehended on the club grounds on April 28.

No charges had been laid at the time of going to print and the investigation was ongoing.
