PhD degree obtained at 52

Crystal Park resident Peter Masegare (52) recently obtained a PhD on the topic “Critical analysis of corporate governance implementation framework control strategy within the public sector”.

“I left full time school in the old Standard Eight (Grade 10) and I have been studying part-time since, taking breaks in between; that’s why I completed my PhD at this age,” he said.

The self-employed accountant studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal from 2014 to 2016.

After obtaining his Master’s degree, he was motivated to study further.

“A PhD study cannot be taken lightly as it is demanding and requires a student to think outside the box in order to make a significant contribution to the existing body of knowledge,” said Masegare.

He is proud of his achievement and hopes he will be an inspiration to the youth, family, friends and other adults who would like to study further.

Masegare plans to plough back into the community by providing supervision to students who are studying towards a Master’s or PhD degree to help promote transformation in the economy.
