Donations needed after family loses home

Proportional Representation (PR) councillor Gary Scallan, with the help of former councillor Mary Goby, donated food, clothes and some household items to the Mofokeng family in Emaphupheni, Daveyton after their shack burnt down on April 9.

A case of arson has been opened at the Etwatwa Police Station.

Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe, Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson, said it is alleged that a man came to the house looking for Dina Mofokeng’s brother, but he didn’t find him.

“He later came back and burnt the shack,” said Maqabe.

According to Mofokeng, there was a conflict between her brother and the suspect.

The man was arrested and charged with arson later that evening.

He appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on April 12 and he is remanded in custody.

Mofokeng, the owner of the shack, said they lost everything in the fire and they need help to rebuild their home.
