Four of the best speakers at the club, Ian Bratt, Dave Walls, Steve Ambartzakis, and Michael Bratt, battled it out in both contests to secure one of the top two positions which would see them through to the next level of the competition, the Area contests.
Michael Bratt walked away as the winner in both, with Steve Ambartzakis taking second place in the Prepared Speaking contest and Dave Walls grabbing second spot in the Evaluation competition.
Toastmasters is a non-profit organisation which was started in America over 90 years ago, by Ralph Smedley.
It aims to teach people to be better speakers, communicators, leaders, and listeners; skills which help a Toastmaster not only in their personal lives, but also their professional ones.
Bratt has been a Toastmaster for about eight years and believes it has changed his life.
“It has taught me to be more self-confident, and has given me the abilities to excel in my career,” said Bratt.
“I think joining Toastmasters is the best decision I have ever made.”
Benoni Toastmasters Club meets every second and fourth Wednesday evening of the month (excluding December), at the Benoni Lake Club, 7pm for 7.30pm.
Visitors can look forward to the International Prepared Speaking and Evaluation Area contests, which are being hosted by Benoni Club on April 12 at the same time and venue.
