UPDATE: Family to donate funds for deceased daughter to charity

Funds were still streaming in for Lakefield accident victim Chanelle Cominetti (27) days after her death.

Chanelle was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Lakefield Avenue on March 17, while en route to her Bedfordview home.

Her mother, Pamela, who lives in Farrarmere, said her daughter died in the Union Hospital on April 8, at 4.45am.

The former Benoni High School learner was in a coma since she was hospitalised until the time of her death.

A crowd funding page was set up for Chanelle as a contingency measure in the event that medical aid funds ran dry.

Pamela said the family has received tremendous support since Chanelle’s death.

“The support has been overwhelming; we knew she was popular, but we did not know how popular – it’s been incredible,” said Pamela.

“We always knew she was a special person, but for people to tell us how she impacted their lives has touched my heart.”

The mother said a portion of the R70 000 that has been raised will be used for funeral costs, with the rest likely to find its way to a charity which supports people who have sustained head injuries or the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa), as Pamela is a cancer survivor.

Chanelle would have celebrated her birthday on Easter Sunday.

A memorial service will be held on April 17 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rynfield, at 124 President Steyn Street.

It will start at 10am.

“Chanelle was an exceptional child and I was privileged to be her mother,” said Pamela.

“For the rest of my life I won’t mourn her loss, but celebrate her life.”
