MVL machine operational at Northmead Square

If renewing your licence at post offices outside of Northmead was an inconvenience, you will be glad to hear that the post office motor vehicle licence (MVL) machine at Northmead Square is functional again.

According to Paul Fouché, who is the regional manager in the Witwatersrand, the MVL has not been operational at the Northmead Square branch since August 17.

“The branch had closed from August 18 to October 21 due to shopping centre renovations,” Fouché said.

“The MVL machine could not work due to transfer of the lines from the old store to the new one.”

This resulted in the South African Post Office (SAPO) having to apply for a 3G modem, which was installed on March 10.

“The MVL was operational again from March 13,” Fouché added.

Prior to the MVL machine becoming operational again, Fouché said alternate post offices were recommended.

“The customers were requested to utilise Farramere, Benoni North, Rynfield and Crystal Park branches during that period,” he said.

According to Fouché, car licence renewals are one of the Post Office’s most popular services.

“More than 2.6-million car licences were renewed at Post Office branches in the past financial year,” Fouché concluded.
