We talk to artist manager Levi Chetty

Carmel Lavinia Chetty, better known as Levi Chetty (29) dedicates her time to helping artists make their dreams come true.

BCT: You are no longer a Benoni resident, but Benoni was foundational in your life. Why?

LC: I lived in Rynfield (2001 – 2006) and Crystal Park (2010 – 2014) and I felt that my high school (Benoni High School), thanks to Mr Lotter, taught me how to interact with and respect different people groups.

Wheels Day at Benoni High was an annual event that I enjoyed where I really saw how diverse Benoni really is.

I live in Sandton but I am looking to move back to Ekurhuleni by July – home is calling me back.

BCT: Tell us about your career.

LC: I joined the mainstream entertainment industry in 2004, where I did album launches and hip hop events out in Johannesburg (I was still in high school at this point). I was also a regular face on CraZe’s movie review show called “Box Office”.

I automatically fell in love with South African music, then with the artists; and artist management became second nature to me. Artist management is a calling and it is God-given.

I am the director of my own company called Let Liv Entertainment, which was founded in 2016 and is based in Sandton.

We offer talent and event management, playlisting, public relations, branding and reputation management.

BCT: Who do you represent?

LC: Sammy Sosa, Towdeemac, Joshua “Jstar” Zacheus, Sol Stringer, Dj B Styles, Huge, Bonolo Chiloane and Morafe.

BCT: Tell us about yourself.

LC: I am the eldest of two kids; my sibling is Craig Chetty, who is the drummer for a Benoni band, Strait-Jackal.

He is two years younger than me and my first ever best friend, dance partner and, probably, first unofficial artist – because I bossed him around when we were kids.

Our parents are missionaries and pastors, Roy and Elaine Chetty.

I have been to about seven schools in total. The most memorable would be Grades One to Three, when we lived in India as missionaries, and my high school, Benoni High.

BCT: What are your hobbies?

LC: I love reading and dancing, I am a foodie and I absolutely love cooking.

BCT: What are your future plans?

LC: My future plans are to see equality for all artists and musicians in South Africa, especially musicians and dancers who get overlooked and treated badly.

I am working on an internship programme that will allow aspiring talent and event managers to intern at Let Liv Entertainment.
