Speeding causes concern

Farrarmere resident Charl Woble is concerned about motorists speeding up and down Cloudy Street in Farrarmere.

“It’s really bad – you can hear them speed up and down the road at all hours of the day,” said Woble.

“There are pedestrians, people jogging and children who are constantly on the road.”

According to Woble, one of his neighbours has approached the roads department in an attempt to have speed humps put in the road.

“This is a generalised problem in all wards and it is extremely expensive,” said Ward 27 Clr Jacques Meiring.

“It is also a process that takes time because we have to wait for the metro to approve the request.”

Meiring suggested that the metro should take into consideration alternative measures to try to decrease the problem.

“People don’t stop at all,” he said.

Woble recalls two incidents when cars almost crashed into his vehicle as he was driving out of his complex (Bushwillow Grove) on Cloudy Street.

“It’s a 60 km/h zone but no one sticks to that speed limit,” he said.

Woble’s main concern is creating awareness about reducing the speed when driving in that street.

The City Times asked its Facebook readers what roads were particularly bad for speeding. These are some of the common roads mentioned:

• Bayley Street, Farrarmere

• Barbet Road, Rynfield

• Webb Street, Northmead

• Fourth Street, Northmead.
