Golden Drive mine shafts closed with concrete

Mine shafts on Golden Drive were closed with concrete earlier today (March 29).

According to the Intelligence Bureau SA Facebook post, the property owner obtained permission to erect a wall to block access points to the mine and some of the shafts.

“This is in line with discussions on how to resolve illegal mining issues,” stated Intelligence Bureau SA.

It is alleged that when the illegal miners saw the erection of the wall they tried to stop the construction.

However the situation is under control.

Benoni SAPS was contacted regarding the incident but could not give any comment.
