Robbers each sentenced to 10 years

Two men were sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Benoni Regional Court.

Magistrate Ian Cox sentenced each of the men to 10 years imprisonment on March 16.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said Dikgoro Thabiso (34) and Bandile Shongwe (24) robbed a man on Voortrekker Street in September.

“The duo attacked, pointed a knife and robbed him of his cellphone,” said Sekele.

“He then went to blacklist the cellphone, and on his way back, he spotted the robbers and alerted police he saw in the vicinity.”

Const Oriel Khoza and Const Tshepo Lusite reacted and managed to arrest both men.

Benoni SAPS station commander Brig Johan Jacobs praised Khoza and Lusite, as well as the investigating officer, Const Wiseman Mavuso, for a job well done.
