He said he would like to remind the public of the Ekurhuleni by-law following “another unfortunate incident” between a dog and a junior club member.
“Whilst the executive realises that this has become a popular spot for dog lovers to exercise their animals and that there are some owners that have been responsible and considerate, there are others who have a total disregard for the area and its surrounds,” Scheepers said.
“We have observed a large number of animals that are not on leashes and other owners who do not make any effort to clean up after their animals.
“This has led to several regrettable incidents between dog owners and members, council workers and other members of the public.”
The council may rightfully impose a maximum fine of R2 000 on transgressors.
