Police arrest 12 more illegal miners

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster today arrested 12 people for illegal mining and being in the country illegally.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, the cluster’s spokesperson, said the arrests were made along Golden Drive and in Lindelani.

Fourteen arrested on suspicion of illegal mining

The operation, which involves the K9 and mounted units and public order policing, started at 8am.

It is due to continue until 6pm tonight.

Sekele said seized items included phendukas, phenduka stands, gas cylinders, iron rods and balls, and gold dust.

This comes after 14 people were arrested on Wednesday in an operation targeting illegal mining.
