End of restrictions not gazetted yet

The national Department of Water and Sanitation did not gazette the end of water restrictions in Gauteng on March 3, as previously reported.

Mlimandlela Ndamase, spokesperson for the office of the Minister of Water and Sanitation, said on February 27 that the Vaal Dam was full and water restrictions in Gauteng would be terminated.

He said the gazette was due to be published on March 3, but there was an internal delay and it should be published on Friday (March 10), though the date could not yet be confirmed.

The water restrictions were still in force in Ekurhuleni on March 9.

The metro was asked whether water rationing would be halted earlier than restrictions, but no answer was received at the time of publishing.

Regarding the water restrictions, Gadebe said: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s department of water and sanitation will have to communicate with its stakeholders and send through an item to council for it to approve the lifting of the water restrictions.”

“Council will have to meet to discuss the matter before communication with all stakeholders is given out.”
