Ekurhuleni water restrictions still in play

The water restrictions in Ekurhuleni are still in force.

This is according to metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

Mlimandlela Ndamase, spokesperson for the office of the minister of Water and Sanitation, said on February 27 that the Vaal Dam was full and water restrictions in Gauteng would be terminated.

He said the department would gazette the announcement on March 3.

In a previous article published by the City Times, it was stated the restrictions in Gauteng would be lifted with immediate effect following the gazette.

This is incorrect as not all municipalities in Gauteng lifted the restrictions immediately following the gazette.

The City Times apologises for the error.

Gadebe said: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s department of water and sanitation will have to communicate with its stakeholders and send through an item to council for it to approve the lifting of the water restrictions.”

“Council will have to meet to discuss the matter before communication with all stakeholders is given out.”
