Woman claims armed robbers kidnapped her at Lakeside Mall

The police have opened a case of kidnapping and a case of armed robbery following claims from a woman that she was kidnapped by armed robbers at Lakeside Mall yesterday (March 1).

The police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Const Zunickha Essakjee said the woman said she was in the mall’s toilets.

“All she knows from there is that she woke up in a car with five occupants – three females and two males,” said Essakjee.

The woman told police she was robbed of her phone and cash and asked for her bank card’s pin number at gunpoint before being dropped off near Nigel.

General manager of Lakeside Mall Chantell Roemer said CCTV footage does not reveal suspicious activity at the toilets nor does it account for the vehicle which was apparently driven by the kidnappers.

“We don’t have any evidence that she was here,” said Roemer.

The footage has been handed to police.

The case is being investigated.
