Vaal Dam fills up, ends restrictions

Water restrictions in Gauteng will be lifted with immediate effect, as the Vaal Dam is completely full.

This is according to Mlimandlela Ndamase, spokesperson for the office of the minister of Water and Sanitation.

Ndamase said the Department of Water and Sanitation was due to gazette the announcement on March 3*.

“The municipalities in Gauteng will lift the restrictions immediately, after it is gazetted,” Ndamase said.

“The restrictions were lifted because the Vaal Dam reached 100 per cent.”

The metro was approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of going to print.

*The date was previously stated as February 28, but the spokesperson later said the date of the gazette was changed to March 3.
