Two arrested after chase on Pretoria Road

Two men were arrested and a third escaped after a suspected bank following this afternoon (February 28).

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster SAPS spokesperson Const Zunickha Essakjee said a man withdrew money from a bank and later stopped at a shop on the corner of Miles Sharp Street and Pretoria Road, at around noon.

She said three male suspects, aged between 38 and 43, in a blue VW Jetta, stole money out of the man’s vehicle.

Essakjee said the Benoni CPF and Roadblock Task Team (Const Gordon Maleka, Const Alex Phohlo, Const Andy Mahoi and WO Bennie Kruger) gave chase, apprehending two of the three suspects on the corner of Pretoria Road and Fifth Avenue.

The money that was stolen was recovered.

Essakjee said police are investigating the possibility that the victim was followed from a bank, although she would not say where he withdrew the money from.

A case of theft out of a motor vehicle has been opened.

The vehicle is in police custody.
