Shooting incident at Lakeside Mall confirmed

Gunshots were fired at Lakeside Mall today (February 25).

General manager at Lakeside Mall, Chantell Roemer, said preliminary information suggests there was an attempted robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle.

She said the guards from the cash-in-transit company apparently shot at the would-be robbers.

Roemer said this led to the criminals dropping the box and fleeing the scene.

According to a shopper who called the City Times, she arrived at the mall’s entrance two when she saw commotion.

“All of a sudden people were running towards me,” the woman said, who did not want to be named.

The woman said she heard a “very loud bang”, which she believes was a gunshot.

She told the City Times at 12.40pm that she was hiding in one of the stores, but would make her way to her vehicle shortly.

Roemer said CMS and police are on scene, and there are no injuries.
