Man with a vision plans to become president

Daveyton resident Kwandile Sikhosana is looking to be the next president of South Africa.

Sikhosana is headed to Dubai to represent South Africa at the third International Youth to Youth Summit from April 23 to 27.

This summit will allow him to develop his leadership skills and create global connections.

It will gather 150 international and 50 local young leaders, as well as more than 30 top speakers and high-ranking guests who will be engaged in fruitful discussions on matters of mutual interest and look for solutions to push forward joint action plans.

The aim is to provide a platform for young, future leaders of the world and give them an opportunity to engage with each other in discussions regarding the most pressing challenges that the world is facing.

Sikhosana said the summit will prepare him to become South Africa’s future president.

“During this trip, I will get to learn how to source funding, promote business development, develop global connections, manage an NGO and use the benefits of technology as an enabling tool for development,” he said.

The 25-year-old is passionate about establishing libraries for disadvantaged communities and finding employment for young people.

He said he is currently working on establishing a university in Ekurhuleni and creating various community development projects, including a healthcare information system.

When asked during an interview with the City Times last year what he would do if he became president, he said: “My main focus is to give people their democratic power back, which is to be heard and have their views represented through their elected political party,” he said.

“My goal would be emphasising the need for people to know of all governmental opportunities and take it upon themselves to better their lives.”

With his eagerness to share knowledge with other young people, Sikhosana plans to conduct workshops in order to groom and help those who want to make a difference in their lives.

Sikhosana still needs funding for a visa, health insurance, travel costs and spending money in Dubai.
