SAPS seeks suspects

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team is pleading with the community to assist them with any information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect/s who might be linked to the murder of a taxi driver.

This comes after the body of a 32-year-old man was found with bullet wounds in open veld next to Main Reef Road.

According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele, it is alleged that on February 8, between 7pm and 10pm, the deceased was doing his job of driving a white Toyota Quantum on the R29, where he was last seen.

“The owner of the taxi received a call from the tracking company asking him what was the problem with the vehicle, as they were receiving tampering signals from the device,” said Sekele.

“The owner immediately called the driver on his cellphone and to his surprise somebody unknown to him answered the phone and again switched it off immediately.”

Sekele added that the tracking company managed to locate the signal at Main Reef Road in the open veld.

The man was found dead with the tracking device next to him.

Anyone who has information or who might have witnessed anything that night can contact the investigating officer, WO Morné du Plessis, on 011 747 0000 or 10111.
